Perspective Makes All The Difference
Perspective Makes All The Difference!
How we look at things affects how we perceive them. Pretty obvious statement. But how often do we take the time to think about changing our perspective in relation to what we do professionally. And if we were to take some time to consider our professional lives a bit differently, we might start to enjoy our jobs a little more. Alternatively, it might cause you to reconsider your current trajectory. Either way, a little perspective is a good thing. Consider the following examples:
Teacher: "I teach". Instead, consider: "I help others to learn new skills and ideas".
Contractor: "I do kitchen remodeling". Instead, consider: "I help people realize their dream homes by building them the perfect kitchen".
Travel Agent: "I help people find with their travel plans". Instead: "I help people create memories of a lifetime by helping them travel around the world".
As you can see from just three examples, changing your perspective on how you look at your job could make all the difference in world. This is why as a coach, I am always asking the question about goals. We always start at a very broad and general goal, but by the end, we usually get to the specific goal and that perspective changes everything!
For some people, they only see things one way and it takes someone else to help them see things differently. I liken this to someone who wears glasses, but rarely cleans them. They are looking through smudges and dust. When someone comes up and cleans their glasses for them, they say "Oh, that's much better. I can see more clearly now!" Think of coaches as the ones who clean your glasses and help you see things more clearly.
