Finish The Day and Be Done With It

Today we were talking about this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson:

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

I want you to focus on those first two sentences. They're important to consider.

Why?

Because you need to decide when it is best for you to consider your day to be done. And don't decide to end it when you run out of time in the day. Instead, decide to finish it before you run out of time in the day.

Leave some time for yourself. Even if it's a little bit.

I mean, you'll always have something left undone for others at the end of the day anyway. So why not set aside some of today for what you really want from it?

Even if that is just a bit of space for whatever you decide to fill it with at that moment. Even if you decide to not fill that space at all.

As Emerson says, forget the blunders and absurdities of the day. Don’t obsess on what happened hours before. Let it go and be done with it. Focus on the now. And don't forget to give yourself some of today at the end of the day.

Because no one else will.

That's it for now. We hope we’ve given you something to think about as a new set of days await you.
